The Wright Brothers® Van Cleves get there first. letterpress postcard (4x6)
Collection:
West Third at Williams
The Story:
Inspired by an original ad for Van Cleve bicycles and the Wright Cycle Company this postcard celebrates the Wright’s own brand of bicycles built by the brothers. Designed and printed in Ohio.
The following quote is printed in small type on the mailing side: “...the brothers’ total expenses for everything from 1900 to 1903, including materials and travel to and from Kitty Hawk, came to a little less than $1,000, a sum paid entirely from the modest profits of their bicycle business.”—David McCullough, The Wright Brothers
While best known for their achievements in flight, the Wright brothers began as letterpress printers. Our handcrafted journals, postcards, greeting cards and art prints celebrate the inventive nature personified by the brothers. Paper goods are letterpress printed on Igloo Letterpress’ antique presses dating from 1892–1962.
